New Tomb Raider Film Slated for 2013 Release
Lara Croft’s bursting her way back into the Hollywood scene with a new blockbuster planned for release in 2013. The movie will focus on Croft’s ruthless past and her battle for survival in her youth. However, the Tomb Raider reboot may not directly coincide with an upcoming Lara Croft video game also set to focus on the explorer’s formative years.
Graham King, one of the movie’s producers as well as a producer of the former Tomb Raider movies, remarked on how the past Lara Croft movies had done in the box office and what direction they were planning to take with the new movie:
“Listen, the box office, they weren’t disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.”
Many of the best action movies of the year, such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, have taken much the same approach. I only hope that they can best Angelina Jolie, who will most likely not reprise her role as the adventuress, in finding an actress that suits the raw, sensitive style that this movie looks to be taking.
