Reckoning Demo Coming, Unlockable Content Included
G4 has confirmed that the upcoming fantasy RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be getting a demo on January 17th. Sadly for those with anything other than an Xbox 360 though you’ll either have to wait or not expect one at all as there has been no confirmation of a release for other platforms. The demo will include player character creation, a tutorial section, and 45 minutes of freedom in the game world. However the most noteworthy feature of the demo is that by completing it you’ll unlock two pieces of content for the upcoming Mass Effect 3: the Reckoner Knight Armor and the Chakram Launcher.
To make things even MORE interesting it has also been confirmed that the Mass Effect 3 demo (which doesn’t have a release date yet) will sport the same feature and unlock two pieces of content for Reckoning upon the completion of the demo…
Unlocks for Mass Effect 3 (by playing Reckoning demo)
- Reckoner Knight Armor: armor that maximizes close quarters combat but also increases the velocity of projectile weapons
- Chakram Launcher: a weapon that shoots lightweight, explosive discs
Unlocks for Reckoning (by playing Mass Effect 3 demo)
- N7 Armor: a complete set of armor inspired by the iconic gear of Commander Shepard
- Omniblade Daggers: a set of holographic blades for use in close combat
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an upcoming RPG from 38 Studios and Big Huge Games under Electronic Arts. The game promises to deliver a top notch performance with executive designer Ken Rolston (The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion) leading the way, novelist R.A. Salvatore (Forgotten Realms) penning the lore, and Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn) crafting the visual design. Reckoning will feature a large open game-world, 4 playable races, 3 skill trees (Warrior, Rogue, Mage), and 22 abilities per tree. Combat in the game leans more towards “action RPG” and Curt Schilling, founder of 38 Studios, calls the game a marriage between God of War and Oblivion. Yet the game promises to not be a hack and slash as lead combat designer Joe Quadara says that “twitch skill is only going to get you so far. Strategy and proper RPG playing is going to get you farther “.
Reckoning will be coming to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC February 7th in North America and February 10th in Europe. Check back around the 17th to see my impressions on the Reckoning demo!
