Double Fine Announces New Game and Making of Documentary

Recently we heard news that Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft, wants to collaborate with Double Fine to make Psychonauts 2. This is not guaranteed to happen, but it would be amazing if it did. One of the reasons that would make it difficult to happen is because of future projects being planned by Double Fine. One of those future plans was just announced on Tim Schafer’s Twitter and Double Fine’s official blog. It turns out that their next project will be an adventure game, and it will be funded through a program called Kickstarter. This will allow Double Fine to fund a project with the help of their fans, and they will have full creative control. There is also going to be a collaboration going on with 2 Player Productions. They will be filming a documentary about the development of the game, and the documentary will also be funded through Kickstarter.

The adventure genre had a resurgence recently, but it quickly became stale again to me. I have complete confidence that Double Fine will deliver an experience, that stays true to the genre while simultaneously freshening it up. Tim Schafer has a long history with adventure games, and we could probably expect plenty of witty writing and good humor. The documentary has me excited because Double Fine is a developer that I have long had respect for, and I want to see their development process in action.

We know nothing more about the game as of now. We can most likely expect to see more about it when Double Fine gets some of the funding they need to get the project up and running.
