Spider-Man Gets A New Origin – Fan Reactions Mixed
If you went and saw The Avengers this past weekend you no doubt witnessed the new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. Releasing this summer, Marvel’s reboot of the heroic web-slinger is starting to look better and better as July 3rd draws closer. However this new trailer has confirmed one of the more significant rumors bouncing around concerning some critical Spider-Man lore.
Originally, Peter Parker gained his powers by mere accident – being bitten by a radioactive spider during a school field trip as seen in the no-so-old Toby Maguire trilogy. Now though, The Amazing Spider-Man seems to be abandoning that key piece of lore and instead are hinting at Peter’s father, Richard, knowingly tweaking his son’s genetics so that such a bite would activate his dormant powers rather than being solely responsible for them.
Fan reactions appear to be mixed about this slight change. Dire hard Marvel purists are definitely pissed but regardless of such opinions I think we can all agree that this new film is shaping up to be something pretty awesome. Personally I’m not a big “Spidey” fan but no doubt I will be going to the theater in July to see this. Below you can find the entire new trailer…
