New NBA 2K13 Screens, New Stick Setup

As was promised on twitter, the first three screenshots of NBA 2k13 were released today. But what might prove to be bigger news is the developer diary, released alongside it, in which the developers discuss altering the game’s control scheme.

NBA 2K has always offered a complex array of moves and dazzling steps to exhibit creativity on the court. But the real issue, one really unruly to newer players, is executing these moves – with an intended-crossover sometimes turning into a behind-the-back or a in-and-out turning into a spin, and so on and so forth. With shooting tied to the right stick and all dribble moves and movement being tied only to the left stick and the use of a button modifier, it’s easy to understand how unorthodox this may feel to the average person’s hands – although personally I’ve never felt it to be much of an issue.

To lay frustrations to rest, though, the Visual Concepts team appear to making the decision to instead move ballhandler moves over to the right stick along with shooting, and keep the left stick controlling basic player movement only. A modifier button will still be used to switch between intended use of shooting and dribbling, I’d imagine. And, yes, talking about button mapping is a very confusing process, I know. Check out the screens and the video below.

NBA 2k13 will be out on October 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
