New Metal Gear Rising Revengeance TGS Trailer
If you’re a Metal Gear fan, it’s easy to be turned off by Metal Gear Rising because it strays away from the series hallmark, stealth gameplay, in exchange for a sword wielding cyborg ninja who cares little for discretion, instead opting to slice baddies in half and then into quarter chunks, in a kind of flashy, self indulgent sort of way.
We like to think to ourselves, “Snake would go in quiet, not like this. He’s still capable of neutralizing an enemy, of course – and if we’re being honest he would totally kick Raiden’s butt, if he wanted to – but he doesn’t need to work that way. That just isn’t how he operates… but he totally could if he wanted to.”
At least those are the remarks I whispered to myself when the game was announced, along with a few added quips about the inclusion of the silly word Revengeance in the game’s title.
Yet, as time passes, I’m starting to come around. Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s latest trailer from TGS is a lengthy (by trailer standards) five minutes long, and although the basis for the gameplay is inherently different, there’s something about it that’s all too familiar. Even so, Revengeance continues to be a silly word.
The game’s Japanese website also reveals that, in Japan at least, the game will be available both as a retail title and digital download on PSN. Looking at the amount of full retail games that have made it on to PSN at launch – Borderlands 2, Madden 13, etc. – it’s probably a safe bet to assume the same will happen with Metal Gear Rising in other territories.
