Ubisoft Not Concerned About Franchise Fatigue

This is a topic that has always been in the back of my mind, especially with many big name franchises continuing to push forward annual releases. In short, it’s a great concept to all; gamers always have a new installment to look forward to and the industry in general is more profitable. However, in the long run there’s the risk of diminishing not only the quality of that brand due to the fatigue of the development team, but also losing the consumer’s patience and interest.

In an interview conducted by GameIndustry International, Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft touches upon this issue:

The gaming community has been buzzing about Assassin’s Creed III, and rightfully so: it looks great and well, new details are popping up everyday, so no one’s really had the time to simmer down.

We know the game’s coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC – that’s pretty much a given – but now it’s been confirmed that it’s coming to Wii U. That’s right, you’ll have the opportunity to play an actual Assassin’s Creed game, with all its strong themes and assassiny type doings, on a Nintendo system. Exciting stuff!

Ubisoft  has finally responded to the recent rumors with the revelation of the official cover art for the game. This official art piece clearly resembles yesterday’s leaked promotional image. The A-G team is overly excited over the confirmation of yesterday’s news.

Assassin’s Creed III Takes Place During Revolutionary War

According to a promotional art image snapped by a Best Buy employee, Assassin’s Creed 3 will take place during the Revolutionary War.

The image [via Kotaku] shows an assassin in front of the original continental flag. The figure, possibly Native American, appears to be holding a tomahawk in one hand and a flintlock pistol in the other. He’s also wearing a military jacket with a custom hood that resembles the assassin attire from previous games.

Although this does fit in nicely with the already popular rumor of a Revolutionary War setting, Ubisoft has not yet confirmed its legitimacy. (View full image after the jump.)

Update: Earlier today, Ubisoft revealed that they will be making a major announcement on Monday.

Assassin’s Creed III Officially Announced

Assassins-Creed-3-logo-550x275

Even though its coming was in no way, shape, or form a secret Ubisoft has finally gotten around to “officially” announcing Assassin’s Creed III.

In an investor call today the publisher not only made the announcement but also gave an actual release date: October 30th 2012. No word yet on if we’re looking at a simultaneous console-PC debut but if 2011′s Revelations is any indication than hopefully all you computer gamers out there won’t have to wait around for six months to get a hold of it.

As with previous installments the time period/setting for the upcoming finale is being kept under lock and key so keep an eye out for any and all possible clues, rumors, etc.
