New Need for Speed and Dead Space Titles to Release by March 2013

Dead Space

Last month, South African retailer BT Games listed Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2 and Dead Space 3, but neither were confirmed to be in development. EA revealed today on a financial call that a new title in each series is indeed being worked on, and will be released by March 31, 2013. The new Need for Speed title is scheduled for Q3 of the 2013 fiscal year, which means it should release somewhere around October.

So if you have an affinity for high octane racing or having the bejeezus scared out of you, then at least one of these titles should be right up your alley.

ESRB: M- Mature

The Teeth of Naros is the second full-fledged DLC release for Kingdoms of Amalur in as many months, this time focusing on a new region called the Teeth of Naros and its floating city, Idylla. Your character is recruited to join an expedition to discover what treasures lie in the hidden lands. Upon arriving, you meet a race of beings known as the Kollossae who have lived in these lands for centuries. Their leader, The Primos, has been in seclusion for years trying to earn the forgiveness of the gods who the Kollossae believe are punishing them. This is where you come in.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review: Deciding Your Fate

Kigdoms of Amalur

Publisher: 38 Studios, Elextronic Arts
Developer: 38 Studios, Big Huge Games
Genre: RPG
Platform: PS3
Release Date: February 7, 2012 (US), February 9, 2012 (EU)
ESRB: M- Mature

As Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning begins, you are shown a short introductory cutscene before being given control of your character. Very little is explained before you gain control but that just makes it all the more fun to try and figure out just what is going on. Thankfully, it doesn’t take long to get used to the controls so you should be dispatching enemies and rifling through loot like a pro before you even get out of the first dungeon.

Whoops: Origin Reveals Crysis 3

Crysis-3-Alcatraz

Thanks to a slip up on EA’s Origin program the previously unannounced Crysis 3 has been revealed. It didn’t take EA/Crytek long to discover the mistake and correct it but the internet was quick enough to pull some images of potential box art and Xbox 360, PS3, and PC “Limited Edition” listings to serve as evidence of the game’s existence. In response to this EA has promised to reveal more details and information about the forthcoming title on Monday April 16th but what we already know is that the game will take place in New York City long enough after the events of the previous games that the city has become a literal jungle. Check back on the 16th for new info about the game.

Mass Effect 3 PS3 Review: Does the End of This Trilogy Go Out With a Bang or a Fizzle?

2126447-box_me3

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: Bioware
Genre: Role Playing, Shooter
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: March 6, 2012
ESRB: M – Mature

There was a lot of weight on the shoulders of Bioware when developing Mass Effect 3. They had to follow up on the near perfect Mass Effect 2, and end the trilogy by doing justice to the beloved characters and story. Mass Effect 3 is a worthy closing to the series, but often times it feels like it is living in the shadow of Mass Effect 2. This is ultimately where many of the games issues come from. While there are some subtle changes that make Mass Effect 3 play better as a game, it struggles to match the previous games as far as story and characters go.

SSX PlayStation 3 Review – Show That Mountain Who’s Boss

SSX Box Art

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Canada
Genre: Extreme Sports
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: February 28, 2012
ESRB: E-Everyone

It’s been five years since the last SSX game, or nine if you’re a purist who believes SSX 3 was the last true entry to the series. That’s a pretty long time. You might think that after such a long hiatus the series would come back a very different and reinvented. After all it was intended to be a reboot of the series. While it may be different in some ways by adding new elements to the classic formula, it’s still very much the same game. I could take or leave some of the many of the new additions, but when SSX is in its purest form of racing and tricking it is an excellent and exhilarating experience.
