Greatest Games: Journey
I am sitting down to start writing this only moments after finishing Journey for the second time, and although it may seem too early after the experience, I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite games I have ever played. I may go as far as saying that this game is the best game ever made. If not the best game, I can say it is the most unique experience I have ever had while playing a video game. Keep in mind though, I have yet to play That Game Company’s previous game Flower.

Much has been said about games trying to be art, but this is the first time a piece of art can be labelled a game. Journey is a game in the loosest sense of the word as it is more of an experience than an actual game. Journey is an unashamedly artistic game with creativity seeping out of every pore but that may not appeal to some. At first, the game feels too pretentious for its own good. It basks in the glow of being an artistic game. However, the game begins to unfold before your eyes as you make your way on your journey.

Journey is Completed But There Still Isn’t a Release Date
Thatgamecompany released Flower back in 2009, and that was one of the most well received and impactful downloadable games of its time. It’s been a long wait for Journey, the follow up game from the developer. It looks like it finally may be getting close to release, because Jenova Chen, the lead designer, tweeted about the game being completed. He said, “3 years is a long time, when you finally finished something and look back, ‘What have I done in the past 3 years?’ Hope it’s worth it.”
We don’t have an official release date yet, but Chen has since said, “Once Sony figures out the right time, they will announce it,” he said. “I assume pretty soon.” Let’s hope he is right about that, because it really has been a long three years.
