Halloween Week: Top Spooky Soundtracks
What makes a game or level spooky? Is it the monsters you face? Or the environment? Maybe the screams of the dying? Those are all major factors, but another very significant factor is often the music that plays in the background. Just like in movies, music can make or break a scene by creating a certain type of mood. In this case, a spooky mood.
We’ve singled out the spookiest game soundtracks we could find, and included videos for your listening pleasure. Be warned: some of them are not the best thing to listen to alone or in the dark.
Top 10 Underappreciated Legend of Zelda Game Tracks
If I were asked to pick the video game series that is most renowned for its music, there would be not the barest hint of hesitation. It’s The Legend of Zelda. The series has some of the most memorable and widely recognized music in all of gaming history. From the original 8-bit style theme of The Legend of Zelda to the heartwarming melodies of Ocarina of Time to the sweeping symphonies of Skyward Sword, the series has long featured soundtracks that rightfully draw copious praise and adoration.
But some of those elegant compilations have been remembered better than others. A few of the most beautiful and (at least in our opinion) noteworthy pieces of music from the series that earned its place in history as the inaugural inductee into the Video Game Hall of Fame have become all-but-forgotten relics of their individual games’ glory days and, in modern times, have fallen into the depths of obscurity. Until today.
What are the Top 10 Most Underappreciated Legend of Zelda Tracks from the series’ 3D installments? Find out after the jump. Warning: Nostalgia and Awesomeness imminent.
