It’s been spotted, now it’s receding. 2K Marin’s XCOM first-person-changed-third person-mid-development tactical shooter, that hasn’t seen a warm reception since it was announced in 2010 but has seen multiple delays, has now undergone a massive web cleansing. The official website has been taken down, and videos for the game on YouTube have been set to Private, as was pointed out by Digital Trends.
The game was originally announced as an XCOM first-person-shooter set in the 1960s, and since has been frequently delayed. A report by Kotaku pointed to a possible rebranding in the works, after registered domain names, that hinted toward a changed title, “The Bureau.” Lastly, a video that popped up last year seemed to show the game had also changed from first-person to a third-person.
Take-Two revealed this morning that Bioshock Infinite has been delayed, and they now plan on releasing the game on February 26, 2013. Irrational Games Creative Director Ken Levine had this to say about the delay.
“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve uncovered opportunities to make Infinite into something even more extraordinary,” said Irrational Games Creative Director Ken Levine. “Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need to deliver the best Infinite possible, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February.”
Levine also went on to mention how news about Bioshock Infinite will be very scarce in the coming months, as it will not be shown at events like E3 or Gamescom.
“That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February.”
This marks yet another highly anticipated 2012 release that has been pushed back to 2013, but I have faith that Ken Levine and the talented team at Irrational Games will use this extra time wisely, making Bioshock Infinite the best that it can be.
Take-Two have put out a demo for Spec Ops: The Line today. The demo contains two single player missions, taking place in the full game’s setting of a future sandstorm infested Dubai, where you must go in search of some missing comrades, and of course you’ll also get to shoot stuff.
If you’re an Xbox 360 Gold Subscriber, it’s available to download right now. The PlayStation 3 demo will be available later today when the PlayStation Store updates, which should be very soon. Sadly, users who don’t have a Gold subscription will have to wait until May 15, and PC players will have to find something else to do for now. But the demo will arrive on PC sometime in June before launch, according to Shacknews.
The full game launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on June 26 in North America and June 29 everywhere else.
And it begins. Take-Two is reporting losses for 2012 and apparently holding Max Payne 3 up until May 2012, thus bringing it into the new fiscal year to pad their fiscal stats. For more drab info about dollars and cents, check out their press release.
You will also see that there is the same old bullet-time song and dance about this delay being great for gamers.
