Apex Legends: A Leader in FPS Games

Apex Legends is a free-to-play first-person-shooter game developed by Respawn and EA Games. You can play it on PC, console, and now also on mobile. Moreover, Respawn recently made the game cross-platform.

In this article, we will explain the basics of Apex Legends.

Legends

Apex Legends have you choose a legend and each one comes with their unique abilities (passive, tactical, ultimate; passive is always active, while tactical and ultimate take time to charge), along with an elaborate backstory.

When the game first came out, there were eight legends, but each new season a new legend comes out, so there are now 19 legends. You get the original legends immediately, but you need to unlock the rest for 12,000 tokens or 750 coins each. Here are the legends:

  • Bloodhound – passive: see enemies’ tracks, tactical: briefly reveal hidden enemies, ultimate: highlight enemies in red and move 25% faster.
  • Gibraltar – passive: gun shield when aiming down sights, tactical: place a dome that shields you/teammates from damage for 15 seconds, ultimate: bomb a marked location.
  • Lifeline – passive: place a D.O.C. drone that revives teammates, tactical: place a D.O.C. drone that heals you/teammates, ultimate: call for a care package containing loot.
  • Pathfinder – passive: scan survey beacons to reveal the next ring, tactical: a grappling hook allowing you to grapple and move to places, ultimate: create a zip line.
  • Wraith – passive: voices inform you if enemies target you/teammates, tactical: enter the void to escape/move invisibly, ultimate: create a portal for you/teammates.
  • Bangalore – passive: move faster when enemies hit you, tactical: employ a smoke grenade, ultimate: artillery strike at a specific location.
  • Caustic – passive: allows you to see through gas, tactical: place a gas trap, ultimate: throw a gas grenade.
  • Mirage – passive: become invisible when reviving teammates, tactical: create one decoy (hologram clone), ultimate: create multiple decoys simultaneously.
  • Octane – passive: passive regeneration of health, tactical: inject a stimulant to move faster, ultimate: deploy a launch pad to propel yourself/others.
  • Wattson – passive: Ultimate Accelerants fully charge your ultimate, tactical: create an electric fence damaging and slowing down passing enemies, ultimate: deploy the Interception Pylon destroying incoming ordnance and repairing shields.
  • Crypto – passive: your drone marks enemies within 30 metres, tactical: deploy a surveillance drone to spectate your surroundings, ultimate: detonate a drone destroying shields and traps, while staggering enemies.
  • Revenant – passive: move faster while crouching and climb higher, tactical: throw a device silencing enemies’ abilities for 10 seconds, ultimate: place a totem that respawns your teammates when they die (just once).
  • Loba – passive: see epic and legendary loot through walls, tactical: teleport to nearby locations, ultimate: place a device that lets you/teammates pick two nearby items (+unlimited ammo).
  • Rampart – passive: increased magazine capacity and faster reloads with LMG’s and the Minigun, tactical: deploy a full-cover amped wall, ultimate: use or place a machine gun (the Minigun).
  • Horizon – passive: reduce fall impact and increase air control, tactical: create a gravity pylon that shoots you/teammates up, ultimate: open a black hole that pulls enemies towards and then deals damage.
  • Fuse – passive: larger grenade piles with grenades’ launch being faster and more accurate, tactical: launch a cluster bomb, ultimate: create a fire ring to trap enemies inside.
  • Valkyrie – passive: fly using VTOL jets and see enemies while skydiving, tactical: launch 12 mini-rockets, ultimate: skydive with your teammates.
  • Seer – passive: find nearby enemies by aiming down sights, tactical: send micro-drones to briefly interrupt enemies’ abilities and reveal them, ultimate: create a dome where each enemy is revealed.
  • Mad Maggie – passive: temporarily reveal enemies you’ve damaged and move faster with shotguns, tactical: place a drill that attaches to an obstacle and burns enemies on the other side, ultimate: fire a ball that releases boosting pads and detonates around enemies.

Battleroyale

The first mode of the game is Battleroyale. In Battleroyale, you team up with one or two other people. In trios, there are 20 teams of 3, and in duos – 30 teams of 2. Your goal is to remain the last squad with at least one survivor. The game has a few stages and each new ring (the playable environment) becomes smaller and smaller.

If your teammate is downed, you can revive them. If they, however, are killed, you can pick up their banner and respawn them at a respawn beacon.

The game starts with all teams on the same aircraft with a designated jump master deciding where to drop on the map.

You initially have a common (white) EVO shield that can be upgraded to a rare (blue), epic (purple) or legendary (gold) shield when you deal damage. Similarly, other items like helmets, optics, knockdown shields and backpacks have the same rarity-tiers.

You don’t start with a weapon; you have to find one (along with ammo) and you can have up to two weapons mounted. There are assault rifles, sub machine guns, light machine guns, marksman weapons, snipers, shotguns, and pistols. They use varying ammo (light, heavy, energy, sniper, or arrows).

To recharge health, you need syringes (restore 25 health) or med kits (restore 100 health). You need shield cells (restore 25 armour) and shield batteries (restore 100 armour) to regain your armour. A phoenix kit restores both health and armour to 100. You can also craft items by collecting crafting materials and crafting at the station.

Arenas

In Arenas, you play with two other teammates against another team of three. The game has at least three rounds and if your team wins all of them, you become the winner. If the two teams have similar win-lose ratio, the game continues with Sudden Death being the last possible stage.

Instead of looking for lot, you have to purchase weapons, optics, consumables (e.g., syringes), and other items using crafting materials. You have to also purchase your tactical and ultimate abilities. You start with 550 crafting materials and you gain more by picking up crafting materials on the map and/or by winning rounds and killing enemies.
