welcome

Welcome to Our Video Games Blog

Hello and welcome, dear readers. We are very pleased to show you our project – a blog that discusses various video games and how to play them. We thought it would be nice to have a place of our own where we talk about the games that we like, so what better way to do that than to make a blog about it?

If you want to learn more about why we created this blog and who’s actually behind it, please refer to our “About Us” section where you can find all this information.

We wanted to dedicate our first post to video games themselves, because, after all, they are the focus of our blog. Rather than pick and choose our favourite games, we thought it would be cool to tell you about the highest grossing video games ever, as well as some fun facts about them that you might not know.

Highest Grossing Video Games in History

You might think you know which are the biggest earners among the industry, but we assure you that you would be surprised by some of the additions on this list. Here are the highest grossing games in history:

  1. Minecraft (238,000,000 sales) – who would have thought that so few pixels could bring in so many sales? The open sandbox world of the game and the never-ending possibilities of the gameplay earned it the prestigious first place on the list. Fun fact: When Persson’s avatar (the avatar of the game’s creator) in the game dies, he drops an apple.

  2. Grand Theft Auto V (160,000,000 sales) – it was expected that the much-anticipated sequel to the successful GTA franchise would rake in millions of sales, but the continuous interest in this highly detailed and exciting game prove that it would withstand the test of time. And honestly, it has to, because GTA VI is nowhere to be seen yet. Fun Fact: The three playable characters in the game (Michael, Franklin, and Trevor) were based on the three types of GTA players that Rockstar believed there were; Michael represents the players who have beaten the game and now want to relax, Franklin is the starry-eyed player who’s eager to explore the game and make it big, while Trevor is the type of player who wants to create mayhem, because the game allows it.

  3. Tetris (EA) (100,000,000 sales) – we were surprised to find out how many games EA sold, because there are many other free-to-play Tetris games, but we guess it truly was something else to reach the 100 million mark. Fun Fact: Tetris (EA) is the best-selling paid mobile game of all time, but despite all that EA Games officially retired it on 21 April, 2020.

  4. Wii Sports (82,900,000 sales) – we remember the hype when Wii Sports came out and it was definitely deserved. Nintendo changed the game with this fantastic sport simulator. Fun Fact: Soon after its launch, Wii Sports players began sustaining injuries when they hit objects around them or other players; sometimes they’d also drop the Wii remote. To compensate them, Nintendo offered replacements and stronger wrist straps.

  5. PUBG: Battlegrounds (75,000,000 sales) – this battle royale game was very well-received and it went on to inspire other games that used similar mechanics. Fun Fact: A lot of money is being poured to every big title like PUBG: Battlegrounds; most of it goes towards its actual development, but a lot of it is also allocated to marketing. This, however, was not the case with PUBG: Battlegrounds. The marketing budget was zero, and instead the team relied on community hype and promotion through Twitch and YouTube. It apparently worked and now the two platforms are widely used to promote games.

Were you surprised by any of the games featured on this list or by the fun little facts about them? Let us know!

Thank You

Thank you for visiting our video games blog and for reading our first post on here! We hope our blog matches your expectations and that it soon becomes your go-to place to find out more about games that you might have not tried out for yourself yet.

Our mini-guidelines are mainly geared towards newbies, but we’re sure that even the more experienced among you have not played every single title you can see featured on this blog.

Although we ourselves have played a lot of games over the years, we have not played every single one, so we’d be happy to receive recommendations about which game to try out next and maybe we’d even write about it.

Again thanks for your support and remember to drink lots of water during your gaming marathons!
